ACRYLICS & ABSTRACTIONISM - THE AWESOME TWOSOME

In par with my previous post of getting started with a canvas, here are a few more tips that worked wonders for me to get going with acrylics on canvas. Dating back to the days when I had spent a lot of time surfing and analyzing the abstract paintings by renowned artists, I could still remember how that very first question of whether it is good or bad rushes in every time. Outta confusion most of the time I left it unanswered. Eventually I convinced myself to the notion that Abstract form of art is something that no one ever can interpret and it is more of an absurdity. I preferred traditional paintings comparing to modern art. Like how they say time has its fair share of changing a person’s perspective, these days I often google modern arts and can’t believe that I am actually into this sudden obsession. Even now I am not –so-good at understanding every abstract art out there, but on the other hand I took the chance of getting in touch with one. This could probably be the first step for better understanding. Just that our ideas should be clear enough to be reproduced in the canvas (After all nobody is gonna debate on our views  :P). Otherwise there are no pre-requisites for making one(Cuz, I didn’t have any.. :P)

With that note take a look at my second canvas painting. The first step was to decide on the key figures/elements, in my case  “Couple - Birds” (need not be love birds all the time right??!). Handpicked the colours that I thought could represent different aspects/emotions of a person’s life.

The tree has the branch of hope where the birds are sitting together. What do they see ahead of them through their intellectual eyes ? –One of the questions that stands for the painting. Here is the completed one.

Few more abstract arts from my palette. Go through and have fun. The first one is an abstract art of peacock feather. On an adjacent angle the painting also represents peacock's eyes.

This is an abstract art of a vase/plant/ where a unique flower symbolizes and its ability to showcase its class that makes it stand apart from the rest. All you can see is the flower no matter where it is. Illustrated as -  independence, patience and perseverance of oneself brings out his/her identity.

Lord Ganesha, also known as the friendly God of all ages  is now  a victim of my "art attack". Three different canvas boards placed one next to another.

Abstracts can start from simple things that we see in and around. Or at-least that is what I do. It is better that complicating things in your canvas and screwing it up. If at all you are thinking of doing one in near future, my sincere advice would be "plan a little and concentrate a lot".

Again, I see this just as the beginning and the obsession is still on... Will come back with much more thought provoking stuff and by that time I hope I'll be good enough to share some more ideas. Until then take break and have some munch!!

THE FIRST CRACK AT CANVAS

A volunteer – resignation from my ex-workplace followed by a swift shift to the pavilion, perhaps is one  of the reasons which has offered me the chance of pitching into babbling.. Err...sorry.. blogging. Initially I had no idea how this break is gonna be for me, and since I’m back to my usual spirit, I also have an idea of publicizing that I'm taking time off for an artistic interlude. Canvas painting – definitely wasn't my cup of tea until then, a day which incidentally stirred my secret desires of attempting acrylics on a canvas. The lazy goose in me wasn't ready to pick one until it heard from a little bird to check out that particular store where one can get cheap & quality canvas. To crack the canvas I had to do some  ground works starting from the theme hunt to the colors involved. I have a tendency to stick primarily to acrylic colors as it is my long-time favorite medium. A couple of reasons that could positively substantiate my choice are listed.
  • They clean up easily with water, but once they dry, they can be considered permanent.
  • Acrylics come in many forms and can easily adhere to almost any surface, including wood, metal, plastic, fabric, stone or glass.
  • It can be very convenient in that they dry fast, can be thinned with water to arrive all sort of consistencies and thicker applications are more possible than in other types of paints.
  • And Most IMPORTANTLY, readily available within your proximity..(whispers the couch potato in me)
As I mumble, the ground work part might turn you google -savvy for the next few hours. Trust me! Being one already fetched me a “self – kudus”. Getting familiarized to the existing techniques and vaguely going through some relevant blogs gave me a hand. To me, there is no rule of thumb for creativity. I was able to find my feet when I started with it. That was a 16x14 canvas board painted with an abstract tree and I just let it incarnate itself. Go on and Have a look...

Getting references or trying to take it as an inspiration is okay for the first timer. Beware! Cultivating it as a practice could gradually risk the level of your individuality. And last but not the least, a food for thought.. Mastering an art can't happen overnight, but then, a mock-tail of the constant interest, assertiveness and thirst for learning could make it work.

Feeling slightly annoyed ?? Yawning?! Take your eyes off this post for now and take a deep breath... Coz the "Super - annoying" posts are in the making!!

OF NESCAFE, BRUSH AND I

After having quite an insight on coffee paintings and have personally gone through some of them in stores, I wanted to try it out by myself. Went on with a drawing paper/card rather than a canvas initially. And to my awe, it had a better flow and texture.

Coffee is a such a fascinating medium to form art. It is quite successful experiment using Coffee to get the old-look effect in painting. It is all about using coffee powder, water and your brush to paint almost anything you can.

Here are the list of my coffee paintings.. This time in canvas.. In general coffee is soluble in water and thus to enhance its life few drops of "Glue n Gloss" is added with the mixture. Alternatively, the canvas can also be varnished post painting.

Where is the party tonight!!
An attempt of the abstract art in coffee painting..
Abstract coffee art on art sheet

Okay, now it is high time to try it on a canvas.. Yet another abstract coffee painting. Shading the same portion twice will enhance the shade and washing it off with an empty brush would reduce the intensity of the shade. Thus the pattern as shown below is its result.

Abstract canvas art with coffee..

Coffee on Coffee
How about some textures in the canvas.. Mseal patterns coated with metallic paints along with coffee makes this abstract flower vase look classic..

Coffee with clay
I always had an eye on traditional paintings of rajput ladies. Taken off by its elegance, tried the same with coffee also.. The jewel portions has been done with Pearl - 3D outliner.
Coffee painting on Rajput Lady
Coffee paintings are known for Buddha designs. Just another abstract him and his symbols.. Have mixed poster colours with coffee solution to arrive into other shades here.

Pinch of Coffee with Tinge of colours
Puppy, atlast..Cutee... Aren't they?? And hope the list continues as and when I get to paint again...
